As a nonprofit employee, I worked on many occasions with consultants for various services – development, web design, strategic planning, marketing, and more. These professionals and their services were key to our ability to reach strategic milestones and goals, but I couldn’t help but notice something was missing from these engagements. While it was relatively simple to find a subject matter expert in a specific functional area, it was more difficult to find someone who had that expertise and also understood the unique dynamics of the nonprofit sector – what we do and the nature of how we operate. The services provided were largely tailored to the private sector (oftentimes with a budget to match!), lacking recognition of the distinct needs and perspective that a nonprofit client requires.
These experiences drove me to build Banyan Nonprofit Strategy, tailored specially to nonprofit and mission-driven organizations.
At Banyan, we aim to create a space where nonprofit organizations can access excellent professional services – whether in the realm of communications, development, or strategic planning – that are tailored to their mission-oriented work.
Think about it – what if your web designer could also help you craft a message across your brand that would resonate with your audience, ultimately positioning you to raise more money for your cause?
What if your strategic planning consultant could go a step further and complement your strategy with tailored fundraising and communication tools to help meet the goals and objectives in the plan you just worked so tirelessly to develop?
What if your contract grant-writer understood how the structure of the grant’s budget relates to your ability to hire more staff and reach goals beyond the grant or program in question? What if that grant-writer understood how the grant fits into your organization’s larger strategy?
Finally, what if these services’ prices were right-sized for your budget, so the end result was wisely spent funds that allow you to focus on your mission?
To us, that sounds pretty great. And that is what Banyan Nonprofit Strategy aims to provide.
My roles in the nonprofit sector were never squarely in development, or communications, or organizational strategy, because the organizations I worked for didn’t have the luxury of full-time employees focused on one area or function. Of course, this meant I could feel stretched too thin. But it allowed me to see where there is synergy and opportunity – where a bit of focused effort, coupled with knowledge and understanding of nonprofit organizational needs – could make a huge impact. That impact is what I strive to bring to the organizations we work with at Banyan.
If this sounds like something your organization could benefit from, I would love to hear from you.
